The base will either be woven with reed or wooden. A wood base will come back in many shapes to make a wide selection of shapes of baskets. The “static” pieces of the work are laid down first. In a spherical basket they”re called “spokes”; in different shapes they are referred to as “stakes” or “staves”. Then the “weavers” are used to fill in the sides of a basket. A wide range of patterns can be made by changing the dimensions, color, or by placement of a certain vogue of weave. To achieve a multi-colored impact, aboriginal artists initial dye the twine and then weave the twines along in elaborate fashions.
